Jarvyn is a personal home-fermentation journal for iOS. We built it so you can track batches, log observations, and manage recipes without creating an account or sending your journal to our servers.
1. Who we are
“Jarvyn,” “we,” and “us” refer to the developer of the Jarvyn iOS application. For privacy questions, contact us at privacy@jarvyn.app.
2. Information we collect
Data you enter in the app
Jarvyn stores the content you create locally on your iPhone or iPad, including:
- Batch & project data — titles, stages, target dates, tags, and notes
- Observations — tasting scores, temperature, humidity, text notes, and timestamps
- Recipes & pantry — custom recipes, ingredient lists, and pantry inventory
- Photos & voice notes — images and audio you attach to batches or observations
- Preferences — keeper name, temperature units, reminder settings, and display choices
- Jar Coins balance — your in-app currency balance and unlock status
This data is saved in the app’s local storage on your device. We do not operate a cloud sync service and do not receive this content unless you explicitly share it (for example, by exporting a PDF or saving a label to Photos).
Device permissions
Jarvyn may request the following permissions. Each is optional and only used for the feature you trigger:
- Camera — take batch and observation photos
- Photo Library — attach existing photos and save exported labels
- Microphone — record voice notes on observations and recipes
- Notifications — batch reminders, weekly digest, and per-batch “Notify Me” alerts
You can revoke any permission at any time in iOS Settings → Jarvyn.
Purchases
Jar Coins are sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase system. Apple processes payment and may collect billing information according to Apple’s Privacy Policy. We receive only purchase confirmation and product identifiers needed to credit your Jar Coins balance — not your full payment card details.
3. How we use information
We use your data solely to provide app functionality:
- Display and organize your ferments on the Board, Recipes, Pantry, and Tools tabs
- Schedule local notifications you configure
- Generate exports (PDF labels, observation logs, monthly reports) on your device
- Deliver in-app purchases and maintain your Jar Coins balance
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.
4. Data sharing
We do not sell or rent your personal information. Limited sharing may occur only in these cases:
- Apple — for App Store distribution, in-app purchases, and system services you enable
- Legal requirements — if required by law or to protect rights and safety
- Your actions — when you export, share, or save content outside the app
5. Data retention & deletion
Your journal data remains on your device until you delete it. You can remove individual batches, recipes, or pantry items within the app, or use Me → Clear All Data to erase all projects, batches, observations, and pantry items and reset Jar Coins to the default starting balance.
Uninstalling Jarvyn removes all locally stored app data from your device.
6. Children’s privacy
Jarvyn is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact privacy@jarvyn.app and we will assist with deletion.
7. Security
Your data is protected by iOS sandboxing and device-level security (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID). We recommend keeping your device updated and using a screen lock. Because data is stored locally, loss of device access without a backup may result in permanent data loss — consider regular iPhone backups via iCloud or your computer.
8. International users
Jarvyn is designed for local, on-device storage. If you use the app outside your home country, your data still remains on your device subject to your local laws and iOS policies.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect changes. Continued use of Jarvyn after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
